Perlite ?

Perlite is a silicate volcanic glass. The distinguishing feature of perlite when compared with the other types of volcanic glasses is the expansion ratio from 4 up to 20 times of its initial volume and the incredible softening when it is heated up to 800-1200 °C . The honeycomb structure is formed as a result of sudden vaporization of the water which compounds 2%-6% of perlite and therefore the emergence of cavities inside the perlite particle. Perlite explodes like corn grains and its gray color turns to snow white. Perlite is abundant in Turkey’s volcanic areas. The 70% of
the whole world reserve remains in Turkey.
